A beautiful and fully working 1970s French architect's desk lamp by Twist — the T1 model, one of the most elegant and functionally resolved parallelogram-arm lamps produced during the decade that elevated the genre to a design classic.

The black lacquered steel construction is rigorous and purposeful throughout. Twin parallel arms form the spring-balanced parallelogram mechanism, with exposed coiled tension springs at each joint working in visible harmony to hold the shade head at precisely the angle required — the engineering entirely legible and entirely satisfying. The conical shade with its ventilation slots sits on a smooth-action pivot joint at the arm head, allowing full directional control of the light. The square weighted base provides a stable, minimal footprint. The whole composition is black on black, with chrome-tone joint hardware as the only point of accent. Fully working. PAT tested.
