A genuine piece of British industrial history. This Gent of Leicester wall clock dates from the 1950s and stands out from the more common black steel cased examples thanks to its rarer aluminium case — a lighter, more architectural alternative that was made in smaller numbers.

The Maker

Gent & Co of Leicester was founded in 1872 by John Thomas Gent and went on to become one of Britain's leading manufacturers of industrial and institutional timekeeping systems throughout the 20th century. Their "Pulsynetic" master and slave clock networks were installed in factories, schools, railway stations and offices right across the country, including the famous clock that still hangs in London's Waterloo Station today.

This Example

This example has an 18 inch dial in a 19.5 inch aluminium case, with the original "GENT of LEICESTER, MADE IN ENGLAND" signed dial and the original counterbalanced tapered batten hands retained throughout. The case has been gently cleaned and polished to lift grime while preserving its natural satin patina, and a new custom cut flat glass has been fitted to the original two piece compression bezel. A new quartz movement has been professionally installed, making the clock fully functional for everyday domestic use without needing a compatible master clock.

As with any genuine vintage industrial piece, the case carries natural wear, light marks and patina consistent with its age and original working life — please refer to the photographs for a full and accurate representation of condition, as these form part of the listing description.
