A genuinely special piece — a hand-carved wren wall clock in alternating oak, with a beautifully detailed carved bird perched on a carved branch. 6⅛ inches wide × 10⅛ inches tall (15.6cm × 25.7cm). Fitted with a new quartz movement, original hands retained, fully working. Ready to hang.

One-off studio craftsmanship — bought new from a working craft village on the Isle of Wight.

Made at Arreton Barns, Isle of Wight

This clock was originally bought in the 1970s from Arreton Barns, a long-running arts and crafts village on the Isle of Wight that's been home to resident makers — woodturners, potters, glassblowers and carvers — producing handmade goods on site since the 1970s. Rather than a factory-made clock, this is a genuine piece of studio craft: a backing panel built from alternating strips of different oaks for a striking linear grain effect, with a separately carved wren mounted on a carved two-log perch in front of it. The bird carving is the real showpiece here — naturalistic proportions, finely worked feather texture, and real presence, all finished by hand.

A clock designed to be looked at, not just told the time from

The dial has no printed numbers — just twelve recessed dark markers set into the oak panel, letting the wood grain and the wren carving do the talking. The original hands have been kept and fitted to a new quartz movement, so the clock keeps accurate time while staying true to how it was made. This is a piece with real character — the kind of one-off decorative clock that won't turn up again, built by a craftsperson rather than a factory.
