A striking Junghans Meister mantel clock in dark green leatherette with solid brass trim and feet, from the West German "Ato-Mat" range. The dial carries elegant filigree scroll hands and a clean baton-and-bar hour marker layout, with "JUNGHANS MEISTER ATO-MAT" printed beneath the 12 and "LIC. ATO GERMANY" at the base of the dial.

This example has been carefully restored. The dial glass, which arrived damaged, has been replaced with a correctly sized convex replacement, and the original electronic Ato-Mat movement has been converted to a genuine Junghans Quartz W738 movement — a real Junghans-branded unit rather than a generic replacement, so the clock keeps its authentic manufacturer pedigree while running reliably on a single AA battery.

Junghans

Founded in 1861 in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest region, by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler, Junghans grew at extraordinary speed to become the largest clock and watch manufacturer in the world by 1903, employing around 3,000 people and producing some 3 million timepieces a year. The company was an early pioneer of electric and quartz movement technology, developing Germany's first quartz clock in the late 1960s and serving as official timekeeper for the 1972 Munich Olympics. "Meister" ("Master") was Junghans' premium line, reserved for its higher-quality, more design-forward pieces — this mantel clock's heavy brass construction and leatherette-clad case reflect that positioning.
