One of the most graphically striking of all Kienzle Design's 1970s wall clock range — a large circular clock with a two-tone face of deep black centre disc and brushed aluminium outer ring carrying bold Roman numerals, behind a flat black outer case. 26.7cm (10.5 inches) diameter, new silent quartz movement, fully working. Ready to hang.

Kienzle

Kienzle was founded in Schwenningen in the Black Forest in 1883 and became one of the most important clock manufacturers in the world. In the 1960s Kienzle produced dashboard clocks for Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce and Bentley. By the 1970s, the "Kienzle Design" sub-brand was producing some of the most considered and collectible modernist clock designs of the era. Examples in this condition are increasingly scarce on the open market.

Design & Styling

The contrast between the matt black and the satin-brushed aluminium is sharp, confident and completely resolved. "KIENZLE design" is printed on the black centre disc in a clean two-weight typographic treatment that perfectly represents the brand's position at the intersection of German precision engineering and considered modernist design. At 10.5 inches in diameter this is a generous, room-filling piece. Slim polished aluminium hands sit flush over the black disc.
