Large Anstey & Wilson Teak & Brass Starburst Wall Clock, 1960s Mid Century, 62cm
A 1960s Anstey & Wilson teak and brass starburst wall clock, and a properly large one. It is among the biggest examples of this British sunburst design you are likely to find. Teak finials on faux brass rods radiate from a brass-cased dial, with the original hands retained and a new silent quartz movement. 62cm (24.5 inches) across, fully working and ready to hang.
A true showpiece, with real presence on a wall.
British atomic-age design at full scale
Anstey & Wilson were a Birmingham-based clockmaker whose sunburst and starburst wall clocks, made through the 1960s and 70s, are now among the most sought-after pieces of British atomic-age design. At 62cm this one sits at the top end of the sizes they produced. It has an architectural scale that smaller examples can't match.
Teak finials, freshly restored
Each teak finial has been stripped back and refinished in satin Osmo wax oil, which brings out the grain and warmth of the wood and leaves a protective, low-sheen finish. The brass case and bezel have been fully re-polished to bring back the warm gold glow these clocks had when new. At the centre, a brass-toned dial carries Arabic numerals in a period script. The original hands are retained, a nice point of authenticity, and are paired with a new silent quartz movement for accurate, quiet timekeeping.
With a 62cm (24.5 inch) diameter and a 17cm (6.75 inch) dial, this is as much a wall sculpture as a working clock. It anchors a room rather than just decorating it.
