Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk

Metamec was founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and grew to become the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, at their peak employing around 750 workers and producing 350 different models and 25,000 clocks every week. The Model 5892 starburst is their most iconic and actively collected design — instantly recognisable, and increasingly hard to find in genuinely well-restored condition.

Nickel and brass, at their sharpest

This particular 5892 pairs polished nickel-finish pointed finials with brass rods and a brass bezel, radiating outward around teak trapezoid inserts for a striking contrast of cool metal and warm wood. Every element has been restored to an exacting standard — the nickel finials brought back to a genuine shine, the brass rods and bezel polished to match, and the teak retaining its natural colour and grain. The dial carries the Metamec signature beneath the 12, with bold black hour markers and a red seconds hand adding a sharp accent against the white face. New quartz movement fitted, with hands carefully matched to the originals so the clock's period character is fully preserved.

At 23.5 inches across, this is a genuine statement piece — the sunburst that Metamec is best known for, in a combination and condition that stands out even among other examples of this celebrated model.
