Metamec

Metamec were based in Dereham, Norfolk, and at their peak were the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, producing 350 models and 25,000 clocks per week. The Model 898 in midnight blue is among the most collectible of their wall clock designs — the vast majority of surviving examples were produced in neutral tones, making this deep blue significantly harder to find.

Design & Styling

Against the gold-tone bezel and applied solid brass baton hour markers, the midnight blue dial creates a combination of clean, sophisticated minimalism that is as at home in a contemporary interior today as it was in 1971. The dial carries fine white line minute markers and the Metamec name in small type just below the 12, with Made in England at the lower edge. Four substantial brass baton markers sit at the quarter hours with slimmer white dash markers between — a restrained and confident design that needs nothing more.

The original 30-hour mechanical wind-up movement has been replaced with a new battery quartz movement and matched gold baton hands. The clock is ready to hang straight away.
