1970s Metamec faux teak wall clock, Model 897 — a warm, minimalist design with brass baton and triple-bar markers. 20.5cm (8 inches) diameter, new silent quartz movement, fully working. Ready to hang.

Warm teak grain, brass detailing, and the quiet confidence of good 1970s British design.

Metamec

Metamec were based in Dereham, Norfolk, and at their peak were the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, producing around 350 models and 25,000 clocks a week through the 1960s and 70s. The Model 897 sits within their teak and brass range from this era — a restrained, minimalist design that favoured clean lines and natural materials over ornamentation, and typifies the confident, understated style Metamec built its reputation on.

Design & Styling

The dial is finished in a rich faux teak wood-effect, paired with slim brass baton markers around the hours and bolder triple-bar markers at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 — a quiet nod to more traditional numeral placement without the visual weight of full numerals. The original brass hands have been retained and matched to a new, silent UTS quartz movement with a smooth step-seconds hand, so the clock keeps its authentic look and sound-free running.

Set within a brass bezel, the whole piece has the restrained, furniture-like presence that made Metamec's teak designs so enduringly popular — equally at home in a hallway, study, or living room.
