A bold and characterful Metamec porthole wall clock from the 1980s — the model 4619, made in England with the chunky, functional confidence of a piece designed to look like it belongs on a ship's bulkhead.

The deep chrome case is machined with a fine ribbed profile and fitted with three faux brass rivets at the cardinal points, giving it the unmistakable visual language of a marine instrument. The white dial carries bold black Roman numerals, fine minute markers and a red seconds hand — sharp and legible against the clean white ground. The whole assembly sits on a flat chrome backplate, flush to the wall and ready to hang.

This is the kind of clock that works brilliantly in a study, a home office, a garage conversion, a workshop or anywhere with a bit of industrial character. Man cave approved.

Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk

Metamec were one of Britain's most respected clock manufacturers, founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and producing clocks for British homes for nearly four decades until their closure in 1984. The model 4619 marine clock was one of their late-period designs — a departure from their starburst and domestic ranges into something altogether more robust in character. Made in England to Metamec's usual standard of quality, it has aged beautifully.

The "Made in England" mark on the dial is a guarantee of provenance — this is a genuine British-made piece, not a later import imitation. Original examples of this model in clean chrome condition are increasingly hard to find.
