Metamec Ship's Bulkhead Wall Clock – Faux Mahogany Chrome Roman Numeral Nautical Made in England
A handsome and characterful Metamec ship's bulkhead wall clock — one of the most enduring and recognisable forms in the Metamec range, bringing the classic language of nautical timekeeping into the domestic interior with considerable style.
The circular faux mahogany backboard provides a warm, rich ground for the faux brass bulkhead clock body mounted at its centre. The brass case houses a clean white dial with bold black Roman numerals, crisp minute markers and slim black hands that read with absolute clarity. The faux brass bezel completes the traditional ship's clock aesthetic — the combination of warm tones and polished chrome is a pairing with centuries of nautical precedent behind it.
At 21cm (8¼ inches) overall diameter with a 12.5cm (5 inch) dial face, this is a well-proportioned and nicely scaled piece — large enough to make a genuine presence on the wall without dominating a room. Quartz battery movement, fully working. Ready to hang.
Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk
Metamec were one of Britain's most respected clock manufacturers, founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and producing clocks for British homes and export markets for nearly four decades until their closure in 1984. Their ship's clock range drew on the long British tradition of nautical timekeeping — the bulkhead clock, mounted on a circular backboard, is a form with roots stretching back to the age of sail. Metamec produced their version with the quality and care they brought to every piece that left the Dereham factory.
The ship's clock aesthetic has never dated — it works in a hallway, a study, a kitchen, a man cave, a workshop or a boat with equal authority. This example is clean, working and ready to go straight on the wall.
