A rare and characterful vintage ceramic wall clock by Schramberger Majolikafabrik — one of Germany's most historically significant ceramic manufacturers, whose wares are actively collected across Europe and the United States. The square ceramic case with generously rounded corners is glazed in clean white with a distinctive cobalt blue trim at each corner and along the edges — a bold, graphic combination that reflects the clean modernist aesthetic of the interwar period.

The white dial carries bold black Arabic numerals, a dot and dash minute track, and the original four screw holes which supported the original mechanical movement, retained for authenticity. The original key wind hole has been neatly blanked with the original brass collet — a thoughtful detail that preserves the integrity of the dial face. The original mechanical movement has been replaced with a new battery quartz movement and matched black hands with an added seconds hand. Ready to hang and use straight away.

Schramberger Majolikafabrik — German Ceramic Heritage

Schramberg was founded in 1820 in Württemberg and became one of Germany's most celebrated ceramic factories. After passing through Villeroy and Boch ownership, the factory was acquired in 1912 by brothers Moritz and Leopold Meyer, who introduced the SMF and SHMA factory marks and transformed the business into a powerhouse of decorative ceramics. The factory attracted leading designers, most notably the Hungarian Eva Zeisel, whose Bauhaus-influenced work from 1928 to 1930 produced some of the most collectible German ceramics of the 20th century. Schramberg continued production until 1988, and pieces carrying the authenticated factory mark are actively sought by collectors on both sides of the Atlantic.

Condition

Good vintage condition consistent with a genuine piece of this age and character. The ceramic case carries characteristic age-related craquelure crazing to the glaze in places — entirely normal and expected in a piece of this period and a mark of its authenticity. Some discolouration is present on the dial surface, consistent with long-term storage. The original four movement screw holes are retained in the dial face. The original brass collet blanks the key wind hole neatly. The new quartz movement and matched hands are fitted and working.
