Seth Thomas Starburst Wall Clock, 1960s Teak & Brass Sunburst, Made in Scotland, Mid Century Atomic Clock
1960s Seth Thomas teak and brass starburst wall clock — a striking atomic-age piece with alternating teak ray panels and brass ball-tipped rods radiating from a silver starburst dial. 34.5cm (13.5 inches) diameter, new silent quartz movement, fully working. Ready to hang.
A genuine slice of mid-century optimism for your wall.
The Seth Thomas story
Seth Thomas began making clocks in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, in 1813, and the company he incorporated in 1853 became one of America's most celebrated names in horology. In 1931 Seth Thomas joined General Time Corporation alongside Westclox, and by the 1960s this partnership extended to a Scottish production base at Dumbarton, where clocks bearing the Seth Thomas name were made for the UK and European markets — which explains the "Scotland" mark on the dial of this piece, alongside its unmistakably American brand name.
The starburst design — teak rays meet brass atoms
This clock sits firmly in the classic 1960s starburst tradition, its silver dial framed by a ring of tapering teak ray panels interspersed with slender brass rods, each tipped with a polished brass ball — the "atoms" that gave the style its space-age nickname. The dial itself carries a printed starburst motif behind bold black Arabic numerals, with contrasting black hour and minute hands and a red step-seconds hand for a sharp, graphic finish against the pale face.
At 34.5cm across, it has real wall presence without overwhelming a room — substantial enough to anchor a mid-century living space, versatile enough to sit happily alongside Scandinavian, atomic or contemporary interiors.
