1960s Metamec black and copper wall clock, Model 5867 — rare colourway. Glossy black chapter ring with warm copper satin centre, raised metallic Arabic numerals, black hands, and brass-tone bezel. New quartz movement, fully working. 20 cm (8 inches) diameter. Made in England. Ready to hang.

The rarest 5867 colourway

The Model 5867 was produced in several dial combinations — yellow and silver, plain silver, and this black and copper variant, which is by far the least commonly encountered. Where the yellow version reads as bright and optimistic, the black and copper combination is altogether more sophisticated — the glossy black chapter ring creating a strong graphic contrast against the warm copper satin centre, the brass-tone bezel tying the warm metallic tones together into a coherent and considered palette.

The raised metallic Arabic numerals add depth and texture that flat-printed dials cannot match — each numeral catching the light individually, giving the dial a presence that belies the clock's compact 20 cm diameter.

Metamec went into receivership in 1984, ending production at their Dereham, Norfolk factory. The black and copper 5867 is a late-production variant from a manufacturer at the height of their design confidence — and one of the most visually distinctive compact Metamec wall clocks they ever made.

The clock

The black, copper, and brass palette works beautifully in mid-century modern, industrial, maximalist, and contemporary interiors — particularly spaces that favour warm metallic tones and strong graphic contrast. Small at 20 cm but visually commanding, it works as a focal point on a kitchen or office wall or as part of a gallery wall arrangement.
