A rare colourway — yellow with silver centre

Metamec produced their compact wall clocks in a range of dial colourways during the 1960s and 1970s, but the yellow and silver two-tone combination is among the most visually striking — the warmth of the yellow chapter ring contrasting against the cool satin silver centre in a way that flat single-colour dials simply don't achieve. The raised silver Arabic numerals add a further dimension of depth and texture, catching the light and giving the dial a quality that reads as genuinely considered design rather than mass-market production.

Metamec went into receivership in 1984, ending production at their Dereham, Norfolk factory after nearly four decades as the UK's largest clock manufacturer. The Model 5867 is a compact example from the height of their production — small in diameter at 20 cm but visually bold, the yellow dial and red seconds hand giving it a presence that belies its size.

The clock

The bright yellow chapter ring, chrome bezel, satin silver centre, black hands, and red seconds hand create a clean, confident retro palette that works beautifully in a kitchen, studio, office, or gallery wall — particularly in interiors that lean into the warm, optimistic colour sensibility of 1960s and 1970s British design.
