Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk

Metamec were one of Britain's most respected and prolific clock manufacturers, founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and producing clocks that supplied homes across the country and beyond for nearly four decades. Their sunburst and starburst designs from the 1970s represent the decorative peak of British clock production — bold, well-made and conceived at a moment when the British domestic interior was at its most adventurous.

Metamec went into receivership in 1984, bringing production at the Dereham factory to a close. Original Metamec sunburst clocks in good condition are genuinely scarce and actively collected — the chrome starburst form in particular is one of the most sought-after in their range. This example presents beautifully, and with a new quartz movement fitted it is a fully working piece ready for decades more use.
