AMS

AMS is a long-established German clockmaker based in Furtwangen, in the heart of the Black Forest — a region with over 300 years of clockmaking heritage. This example is stamped "West Germany" on the pendulum, dating it to before German reunification in 1990, and fitted with a genuine Junghans W817 movement — a respected pairing of two well-known Black Forest names in a single piece.

Design & Styling

The design is a study in restraint: a tall, ladder-like case in a silvered faux aluminium finish frames a matching dial with bold black Arabic numerals and slim black hands, finished with "Made in Germany" printed discreetly at the base of the dial. Two horizontal black bars cross the top and bottom of the frame, adding a subtle architectural rhythm to the otherwise plain uprights.

Below the dial, a slender pendulum swings gently behind the frame, weighted with a polished chrome ball that catches the light with every pass. It's a genuinely silent-running piece — no ticking, just the quiet visual motion of the pendulum — making it well suited to a bedroom, study, or anywhere a loud clock would be unwelcome.

At 64cm tall, this has real vertical presence without being a heavy or ornate piece — a good fit for anyone who wants mid-century-adjacent German design without full-blown atomic-age styling.
