One of the most sought-after starburst wall clocks ever made in Britain — an Anstey and Wilson brass and Burmese teak sunburst from the 1960s, professionally restored to an exacting standard with a new quartz movement.

Six polished brass long-spike rays alternate with shorter brass rod spokes, each tipped with a rich diamond-shaped Burmese teak finial, radiating from a brass bezel with commanding authority.

Birmingham's Finest

Anstey and Wilson were a Birmingham brass manufacturer whose starburst wall clocks are regarded by collectors as among the finest and most sought-after of their type produced in the UK during the mid-century period. Where many British starburst makers turned to lighter-gauge metals, Anstey and Wilson brought genuine weight and precision to their brass work — clocks that are heavier, better finished and more visually commanding than the mass-produced alternatives that followed.

The brass and teak composition

The brass shows some light, age-appropriate pitting to a number of the rays, consistent with a genuine 1960s piece of this weight and gauge — please see photos, as it does not detract from the clock's overall presence. The teak finials, by contrast, are in excellent, unmarked condition, with real depth of grain. The gold-tone brass dial carries bold black Roman numerals with dash minute markers and the Anstey Wilson England signature below twelve. New hands have been fitted, sympathetically chosen to match the proportions of the originals, and the clock now runs on a new, silent quartz movement.

At 48cm across, this is a genuinely large-scale statement piece — a clock that anchors a wall rather than simply sitting on it.
