Anstey and Wilson Starburst Wall Clock – 1960s Brass Burmese Teak Fully Restored England 19 Inch
One of the most sought-after starburst wall clocks ever made in Britain — an Anstey and Wilson brass and Burmese teak sunburst from the 1960s, fully restored to an exacting standard with a new quartz movement and the original hands preserved.
Twelve polished brass long-spike rays alternate with shorter brass rod spokes each tipped with a rich diamond-shaped Burmese teak finial, radiating from a brass bezel with commanding authority. The quality of the brass is immediately apparent — heavier, deeper in colour and more precisely finished than the mass-produced alternatives. The teak finials have a richness and depth of grain that speaks to the quality of the material selected. The gold-tone brass dial carries bold black Roman numerals with dash minute markers, the Anstey Wilson England signature printed below twelve, and the Quartz designation confirming the new movement. The original hands — slim, blackened and beautifully proportioned — are preserved and fully working.
19 inches (48cm) diameter. Professionally restored. Ready to hang.
Anstey and Wilson — Birmingham's Finest
Anstey and Wilson were a Birmingham-based brass manufacturer whose starburst wall clock is regarded by collectors as the finest and most sought-after of its type produced in the United Kingdom. Where other British manufacturers used lighter-gauge metals and softer woods, Anstey and Wilson brought the full weight of Birmingham's brass-working heritage to their clock production — pieces that are heavier, better-made and more visually commanding than anything produced by their contemporaries.
The combination of polished brass spikes, warm Burmese teak diamond finials and the gold-tone brass dial is a composition of exceptional balance and elegance. This is the clock that serious mid-century collectors seek when they are ready to move beyond the more common British starburst designs. Produced in the 1960s at the height of British mid-century design confidence, fully restored and ready for another sixty years on any wall it chooses to occupy.
