Anstey Wilson England Wall Clock, Scalloped Aluminium, Brass Bezel, 1960s, Automatic, Quartz
A distinctive and characterful vintage wall clock by Anstey & Wilson of Birmingham, one of the most celebrated names in British mid-century clock making — this scalloped brushed aluminium wall plate model is a rarer, more understated cousin of their famous teak starburst designs. 29cm (11.5 inches) diameter, 17cm (6.75 inch) dial, quartz movement, fully working. Ready to hang.
The quieter, more understated side of a famous British name.
Anstey & Wilson
Anstey & Wilson were based in Birmingham and produced a focused range of premium wall clocks during the 1960s and 1970s, sold through the better furnishing and department stores of their day. Their teak and brass starbursts are among the most collected British clocks of the period, but all of their formats share the same commitment to quality materials and considered design.
Design & Styling
The clock is built around a large scalloped aluminium backing plate with a softly irregular petal-shaped edge that gives the piece a handsome organic quality quite different from a standard round case. The central section carries a polished brass bezel housing the dial — a brushed aluminium sunburst face with bold black Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9, fine dash markers between, and the Anstey & Wilson, England designation printed cleanly at centre. The original black hands are present and believed original to the piece.
