Estyma Tulip Alarm Clock – 1960s West German Space Age Chrome, Blue Luminous Dial

A bold and characterful West German space age alarm clock by Estyma — the tulip pedestal variant, one of the most visually dramatic desk clock formats of the 1960s.

The spherical chrome clock head sits on a sweeping tulip-form chrome pedestal. The deep cobalt blue dial carries bold luminous Arabic numerals and slim hands — both dial and hands glow in the dark, transforming the clock into something otherworldly in a darkened room. Two independent wind-up mechanisms are housed in the back — one for the clock movement, one for the alarm — the alarm primed using the clock wind-up key.

Estyma were a West German clock manufacturer whose mechanical wind-up clocks were produced to the high engineering standards of the German clockmaking tradition. The tulip pedestal format was one of the defining silhouettes of 1960s European clock design — the spherical head balanced on a flared stem evoking the optimistic, forward-looking aesthetic of the era.
