Goldbühl Musical Alarm Clock – Cobalt Blue Glitter Dial, Egg, West Germany 1960s/70s
A jewel of West German design — the Goldbühl Laterna musical alarm clock in rich blue with a midnight blue glitter dial. Made by Fichter KG under the Goldbühl tradename, this egg-shaped mechanical alarm clock is one of the most collectible timepieces of the 1960s–70s.
The cobalt blue glitter dial pulses with an almost galactic depth — deep, dark and intensely blue at the centre, fading to black at the outer edge like a night sky seen from space. Bold cream Arabic numerals orbit the dial, luminous against the dark ground. The case is moulded in blue plastic with a crackle-mosaic surface pattern, giving the whole object a tactile, sculptural quality.
When the alarm triggers, the musical mechanism plays a melodic chime — a charming and entirely unexpected feature that elevates this well beyond a standard vintage alarm clock. This example is in exceptional near-new condition: the mechanism runs cleanly, the alarm sets and releases correctly, and the musical function works perfectly.
