1960s Manley starburst wall clock — a dramatic 24-spoke design in walnut on solid brass, with a faux marble/onyx-effect dial. 46cm (18 inches) diameter, 14.6cm (5.75 inch) dial, new silent UTS German quartz movement, original brass dagger hands retained. Restored to an exacting standard.

Twenty-four rays of walnut, radiating from a genuinely striking onyx-effect face — this is Manley at its finest.

Manley

Manley was a British clock maker active through the 1960s, producing spoke and starburst wall clocks alongside contemporaries like Metamec and Anstey & Wilson during the height of Britain's atomic-age design boom. Detailed company records are hard to come by — Manley appears not to have left the kind of documented paper trail some larger makers did — but genuine period examples like this one are increasingly sought after by collectors, particularly in this striking onyx-dial configuration.

Design & Styling

This is the full 24-spoke Manley silhouette at its most dramatic — dense, tapered walnut rays mounted on individual brass rods, radiating outward in a genuinely sculptural arrangement that catches the light differently from every angle. Each spoke sits proud of the face, creating real depth and shadow play on the wall.

At the centre, a warm faux marble dial in mottled gold and amber tones carries the "MANLEY" name in raised gilt lettering, with brushed brass rectangular hour markers and the original brass dagger-style hands — retained rather than replaced, a nice detail for anyone who values keeping as much of the piece original as possible. The dial's onyx-effect finish is genuinely more refined than the plainer dials seen on many comparable starbursts, giving this example a more considered, upmarket presence.

The movement has been fitted with a new silent UTS German quartz mechanism, so it runs smoothly with no ticking, while every visible original component — the hands, the dial, the spokes — has been restored to an exacting standard.
