Manley Starburst Wall Clock – 1960s British Teak Walnut Brass Faux Marble Face 19 Inch Quartz
A genuinely exceptional piece of British mid-century design — a 1960s Manley starburst wall clock in the most desirable configuration the form comes in. Twelve alternating rays of teak and walnut — each a faceted, elongated point — radiate outward from a central oval face on slender brass rods, creating a composition of extraordinary visual energy. The face itself is one of Manley's finest details: a faux marble oval in warm champagne and gold tones, fitted with the original hands and surrounded by a ring of brass dash hour markers. The result is a clock that commands any wall it occupies with absolute authority.
Fitted with a new quartz movement, original hands retained. 48cm wide × 54cm tall (19 × 21 inches). Ready to hang.
Manley — British Clockmaking at Its Most Confident
Manley were a British clock manufacturer whose starburst and sunburst wall clocks have become among the most sought-after British mid-century pieces on the collector market. Made during the height of the atomic age aesthetic in the 1960s, Manley clocks combined quality materials — genuine teak and walnut, solid brass rod spokes — with a design language that was uncompromisingly bold. Where lesser manufacturers used plastic or resin for their rays, Manley used wood, properly finished and precisely fitted.
The teak and walnut combination seen on this clock is the premium variant of the Manley starburst form — the contrast between the warm honey of the teak and the deeper chocolate of the walnut gives the clock a visual richness that single-wood examples simply cannot match. The faux marble oval face, with its distinctive veined champagne ground, is another mark of quality — a design detail that elevates this well above the standard starburst form and gives it a character entirely its own.
Original examples in this condition with new movements and original hands are increasingly difficult to find. This is a clock that will define a room.
