1960s Manley Teak Walnut Starburst Clock, 24 Spoke Atomic Design
1960s Manley teak and walnut starburst wall clock — a striking 24-spoke sunburst in alternating warm tones, with a grey faux marble (onyx-effect) dial. 38.1cm (15 inches) diameter. Ready to hang.
Twenty-four rays of teak and walnut, radiating pure mid-century sunshine.
Manley
Manley was a British clock maker active through the 1960s, producing spoke and starburst wall clocks alongside contemporaries like Metamec and Anstey & Wilson during the height of Britain's atomic-age design boom. Genuine period examples like this one are becoming harder to find in good original condition, making them a sought-after alternative to the many modern reproductions now on the market.
Design & Styling
Rather than a single wood tone, this design alternates teak and walnut spokes around the full 24-ray sunburst, catching the light differently at every angle and giving the piece far more depth than a plain teak starburst. Each spoke sits proud of the dial on its own slender brass rod, creating that classic mid-century "floating rays" effect.
At the centre, a grey faux marble (onyx-effect) dial carries brushed gold baton markers and elegant gold sword hands — a quieter, more refined finish than the bright chrome dials often seen on this style of clock. At 38.1cm across, it's a genuine statement piece without overwhelming a smaller wall.
