1984 Metamec solid brass ship's wheel wall clock, Model 4234 — a striking nautical timepiece styled as a captain's wheel, with eight sturdy brass spokes radiating from a convex glass dial. 26cm (10.25 inches) diameter, new German UTS quartz movement, fully working. Ready to hang.

A genuine piece of Metamec's final Dereham-era production.

Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk

Metamec was founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and grew to become the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, at their peak employing around 750 workers and producing 350 different models and 25,000 clocks every week. This particular clock dates to 1984 — the final year of Metamec's original independent production before the company went into receivership that December and was purchased in January 1985 by FKI of Halifax, who continued the name until 1993. A clock from 1984 is genuinely one of the last pieces to leave the Dereham factory under Metamec's own ownership, making it a small but real piece of the company's history.

A captain's wheel for the wall

The design is confident and unmistakably nautical — eight solid brass spokes with turned finial handles radiate outward like the wheel of a ship's helm, framing a crisp white dial with bold black Roman numerals and fine fleur-de-lis motifs at the quarters. The convex glass gives real depth and presence to the face, and the case has been carefully repolished to bring out the warmth of the brass, while the antique finish on the finial handles has been deliberately preserved rather than stripped back — keeping the character of genuine age intact. Signed "Metamec Quartz" beneath the 12, with "Made in England" printed at the base of the dial.

At just over 10 inches across and only 1.75 inches deep, this sits comfortably as a wall piece without dominating the space — a distinctive nautical statement for a hallway, study, or coastal-themed room.
