Metamec 4647 Sunburst Wall Clock — Champagne Dial, Gold & Black, 1980s Brass
1980s Metamec brass sunburst wall clock, Model 4647 — a warm, sculptural gold starburst wall clock with a champagne dial, gold and black baton markers, and elegant radiating brass spokes, professionally restored to an exacting standard. 60 cm (23½ inches) diameter, original movement restored, ticking step seconds hand, fully working. Ready to hang.
Late Dereham production — one of the last brass sunbursts Metamec made
Metamec went into receivership in December 1984, bringing British clock production at their Dereham, Norfolk factory to an end after nearly four decades. At their peak they employed 750 people, produced 350 models, and made 25,000 clocks a week — becoming the largest clock manufacturer in the UK. The brass 4647 is a late-production example from the final years of the original Dereham factory, giving it a genuine end-of-an-era significance.
Champagne, gold, and black — a refined take on the sunburst
This particular 4647 carries a champagne dial with a two-tone brass and black baton index, giving the face a more refined, jewellery-like quality than the plain brass dial variant. Gold hands sweep against the champagne ground, with a genuine ticking step seconds hand adding real mechanical character — the original movement has been carefully restored to an exacting standard rather than swapped out, keeping the clock as close to its factory specification as possible. The radiating brass spokes catch the light with real depth, warming any wall they hang on.
At 60 cm (23½ inches) diameter it is a genuinely commanding piece — large enough to anchor any wall in a living room, hallway, kitchen, or office, with the sculptural presence that makes a room.
