What makes this example exceptional is its complete originality. The Metamec-branded movement is factory-fitted and untouched. The baton hands are original to the clock. The movement runs with an audible tick in one-second increments — the authentic sound of a 1970s British clock, not the silence of a modern replacement. The vast majority of surviving Metamec starburst clocks have had their movements replaced over the decades; finding one like this, completely original and in pristine vintage condition, is increasingly rare.

The chrome and teak combination is among the most visually striking of all Metamec starburst designs — fourteen chrome spike rays alternating with shorter teak-tipped spokes radiating from the central dial, creating a bold geometric silhouette that commands any wall it meets.

Metamec — Dereham, Norfolk, Made in England

Metamec were one of Britain's most respected and prolific clock manufacturers, producing clocks from their Dereham factory that supplied homes across the country for nearly four decades. Their starburst and sunburst designs from the 1970s represent the decorative peak of British clock production. Metamec went into receivership in 1984, ending production entirely — original examples in fully unaltered condition are now genuinely scarce and actively collected.
