A handsome and well-preserved Metamec wall clock from 1979 — the model 4632, one of the more distinctive pieces from Metamec's late-period domestic range. The bold moulded outer ring is divided into twelve gold-tone segments by thin dark dividers, creating a clean geometric composition that sits somewhere between a chapter ring and a starburst — confident, warm and entirely of its era. The gold-tone bezel frames a white sunburst dial with bold black Roman numerals and the Metamec name, with the original ornate blackened hands reading with excellent clarity.

This clock retains its original factory movement and hands, keeping very reliable time — a detail that matters considerably to buyers who value authenticity in their vintage pieces. Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk

Metamec was founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and grew to become the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, at their peak employing around 750 workers and producing 350 different models and 25,000 clocks every week. Their late 1970s range reflected a confident, decorative design sensibility — pieces that were bold enough to anchor a wall while retaining the quality and precision the Metamec name demanded.

The model 4632 is one of the most visually satisfying designs from this period — the segmented gold ring brings warmth and structure to the clock without overwhelming the dial, and the result is a piece that works equally well in a traditional or contemporary interior. Metamec went into receivership in 1984, and original examples with their factory movements intact grow increasingly hard to find in excellent condition.
