A warm and striking Metamec wall clock from the 1970s — the model 5635 in the rare copper and rose-gold colourway, a significantly less common finish than the standard cream and silver variant and a considerably more glamorous one.

The two-tone dial is the defining feature — a deep charcoal-black outer ring with raised cream Arabic numerals and white dash minute markers, encircling a sunken central disc in warm brushed copper-rose tone. The contrast between the dark outer ground and the glowing copper centre creates a depth and richness that the lighter colourways simply cannot match. The original copper-tone hands sweep across both zones with a visual coherence that confirms this is a clock that was designed as a whole, not assembled from parts. The moulded black bezel frames the composition cleanly, and the convex glass gives the dial a satisfying sense of enclosure and presence.

This clock retains its original factory movement and hands, keeping very good time with an audible tick — the authentic sound and character of an original 1970s British clock entirely intact. 8 inches (20cm) diameter. Ready to hang.

Metamec — The Pride of Dereham, Norfolk

Metamec was founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and grew to become the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, at their peak employing 750 workers and producing 350 different models. The 5635 was produced across several colourways during the 1970s — the standard cream and silver is the version most commonly encountered. The copper and rose-gold finish is the rarest and most sought-after of the variants, bringing a warmth and period glamour to the design that lifts it well above the everyday domestic range.

An original movement keeping very good time is a genuine and meaningful detail — battery-converted examples are common, but a Metamec running exactly as it left the Dereham factory in the 1970s is a more honest and more characterful thing entirely.
