A bold and graphic vintage wall clock by Metamec — the model 5868, one of the most enduringly versatile designs produced at the Dereham factory during the 1960s. White embossed dial, polished chrome bezel, bold raised black Arabic numerals and a clean continuous minute track. This example has been fitted with a new quartz movement and striking lime green hands — a fresh and distinctive colour choice that gives this classic design an unexpected contemporary edge.

The 5868 is the Metamec at its most graphic and most timeless. The combination of the white dial, the deep polished chrome bezel and the convex glass gives the clock a clean, modernist presence equally at home in a mid-century, Scandi or contemporary interior. The lime green hands add a pop of colour entirely in keeping with the palette of 1960s British domestic design.

Originally mains powered, this clock has been converted to battery quartz and is ready to hang straight away.

Metamec — British Clock Making Heritage

Metamec were based in Dereham, Norfolk, and began production in 1947. At their peak they were the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, employing around 750 people and producing 350 models at a rate of 25,000 clocks per week. The model 5868 dates from the height of the Dereham factory's output in the 1960s — a decade when Metamec's designs were at their most confident and their quality at its finest.
