Metamec Model 5892 Starburst Wall Clock, Rare Gold Dial Variant, Teak and Chrome, 1960s

A genuinely rare variant of the iconic Metamec Model 5892 starburst wall clock — one of the most sought-after mid-century British wall clocks ever made. This particular dial configuration is, to our knowledge, not currently available anywhere else on the market.

Twelve polished chrome long finials radiate outward from the central face, alternating with teak wood inserts in perfect condition — the classic combination that made the Metamec starburst the defining statement piece of 1960s British interior design. What sets this example apart is the dial: a gold sunburst face with bold raised black Arabic numerals, black hands including a ticking seconds hand, and the METAMEC and QUARTZ designations at centre. The dial shows some age-related patination consistent with a piece of this age and character — honest vintage wear that does not affect the overall appearance or visual impact of the clock.

The original quartz movement is fully working and keeping perfect time. An audible tick adds to the authentic vintage character of the piece.

Metamec — British Clock Making Heritage

Metamec were based in Dereham, Norfolk, and began as an offshoot of furniture manufacturers Jentique around 1941. At their peak they employed around 750 people, producing 350 models of clock and 25,000 clocks per week — making them the largest clock manufacturer in the UK. The Model 5892 starburst in chrome and teak is their most celebrated design: instantly recognisable, actively collected, and increasingly difficult to find in good original condition. This rare gold dial variant is an exceptional example.

Very good original condition. The twelve chrome finials are polished and bright. The teak inserts are in perfect condition with no chips or damage. The original quartz movement is working and keeping perfect time.
