A handsome and thoroughly elegant vintage wall clock by Metamec — the classic combination of a warm bronze dial, polished brass bezel and bold Roman numerals that places this firmly in the tradition of the finest British domestic clock making of the 1960s. At 9 inches in diameter this is a substantial piece with genuine presence on the wall, and the deep convex new glass gives the dial a rich, jewel-like quality that rewards close inspection.

The dial carries the Metamec and Quartz designations at centre, with the Made in England mark confirming its Dereham, Norfolk provenance. Gold hour and minute hands pair naturally with the warm bronze dial, while the black seconds hand provides a clean contrast. The clock has been fitted with a new quartz movement, new glass and matched replacement hands — a comprehensive restoration that leaves it ready to hang and use straight away.

Metamec — British Clock Making Heritage

Metamec were based in Dereham, Norfolk, and began production in 1947. At their peak they were the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom, employing around 750 people and producing 350 models at a rate of 25,000 clocks per week. This Roman numeral brass bezel example dates from the 1960s — the decade when Metamec's designs were at their most assured and their quality at its finest.
