A bold and characterful vintage wall clock by Timemaster — the quintessential retro kitchen clock, and one of the most visually striking examples of 1960s German domestic design sold into the British market. The vivid red enamel steel outer case frames a brushed aluminium inner surround and clean white dial with bold black Arabic numerals, a continuous minute track and the Timemaster name in elegant script at centre. The dial carries the FOREIGN marking, confirming British import and placing manufacture firmly in the 1960s.

What makes this clock particularly special is the movement. The original Licato Germany transistor electronic movement — visible through its clear plastic housing on the reverse — is fully working and keeping perfect time. These early transistor electronic movements, which replaced electromagnetic balance-wheel mechanisms with solid-state electronics, are increasingly difficult to find in working order. This example runs on a single LR14 C cell battery. The glass is in perfect condition — unmarked and scratch-free throughout.

Timemaster — German Precision for the British Market

Timemaster was a British import brand active through the 1960s and 1970s, supplying the UK domestic market with clocks of German manufacture. The FOREIGN dial marking and the Licato Germany transistor movement confirm this example's origins clearly. Licato were a significant German clock movement and ceramic dial manufacturer of the period, supplying movements to numerous British and European trade brands. The transistor electronic movement represented the cutting edge of domestic clock technology in the early 1960s — a solid-state alternative to the electromagnetic movements that preceded it, offering greater reliability and longer battery life.

Good vintage condition. The glass is perfect — unmarked and scratch-free. The white dial is clean and bright. The original dart-style black hands are present and correct. The brushed aluminium inner surround shows surface wear and light oxidation marks from storage — consistent with a piece that has spent decades unhanging rather than in use. There is one small chip to the red enamel outer case edge at approximately the 8 o'clock position. The original Licato transistor electronic movement is working and keeping perfect time.
