Wedgwood Metamec Collaboration Wall Clock – 1977 Blue Jasperware Vine Leaf Quartz 10 Inch Perfect
A genuinely rare and beautiful piece of British ceramic and horological history — a wall clock produced through the short-lived collaboration between Wedgwood and Metamec, first produced in 1977 and discontinued by 1980. In perfect vintage condition throughout.
The pale blue jasperware plate body carries a continuous border of white bas-relief vine leaves and grape clusters — a naturalistic and elegant design that sits alongside Wedgwood's finest classical traditions. The recessed central clock face carries a new quartz movement and new hands matched to the originals, the dial itself marked "Metamec Wedgwood" and "Quartz" — confirming this as a genuine collaboration piece with its authentic character fully preserved. The reverse carries the Wedgwood stamp confirming the authenticity of this remarkable collaboration.
At 25cm (10 inches) in diameter this is a generous and well-proportioned piece. Perfect vintage condition — the jasperware body is entirely undamaged, the white relief decoration crisp and complete throughout, the movement working. Ready to hang.
Two British Institutions — One Remarkable Object
Wedgwood was founded in Staffordshire in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood and grew to become one of the most celebrated names in world ceramics. Metamec was founded in Dereham, Norfolk in 1947 and became the largest clock manufacturer in the United Kingdom. Both were British institutions of the highest order, and when they came together in the late 1970s to produce this range of jasperware plate clocks, the result was something entirely distinctive — a piece that belonged fully to both traditions simultaneously.
The collaboration ran for only three years, from 1977 to 1980, making surviving examples in perfect condition genuinely scarce. The pale blue jasperware with white vine leaf relief is one of the most graceful designs in the range — naturalistic rather than strictly classical, warm rather than formal, and entirely harmonious with both the Wedgwood and Metamec heritage. This is a piece that collectors of both manufacturers actively seek and rarely find in this condition.
